Medicaid cuts will disproportionately hurt those in red states
Trump cohorts want to cut Medicaid. Obamacare, which is popular in red states, relies on Medicaid for services. Thus, cutting Medicaid will hurt those with Obamacare.
3 million plan to use Obamacare in 2025 and 82% are in red states, according to Reuters. So, these presumed Trump supporters would be hurt the most by cuts in Medicaid. Trump says he will leave Social Security and Medicare alone. But Medicaid is being targeted.
"One of the most important differences between Medicaid and Obamacare is that Obamacare health plans are offered by private health insurance companies while Medicaid is a government program (albeit often administered by private insurance companies that offer Medicaid managed care services)."
Social Security and Medicare are even more popular than Obamacare. Republicans have tried to cut them in past and always backed off. These are the third rails of politics, step on them and get electrocuted. (The phrase comes from electric subways and trains. The third rail provides the electricity.) Elonswamy also is yapping about slashing or eliminating the VA. Good luck with that in a country where veterans are revered.
Obamacare, Marketplace insurance, Affordable Care Act are the same thing. Private healthcare insurance subsidized in part or in full by the government (depending on income levels) that has government Medicaid services.
The subsidy is based on your income for that year. The following year at tax time, your current income is compared to that previous year. If you earned more more, you may owe. If less, you get a refund. It's a bit complicated, however everything is on Form 1095-A Health Insurance Marketplace Statement, sent to the taxpayer and IRS by the insurer.
Let's fight to protect Medicaid.
